Cara Hunter said: “I was glad to have the opportunity today to speak in the Assembly motion calling for a ban on conversion therapy. Today’s debate is the symptom of a very sick part of our society that still believes our LGBT+ friends, family and colleagues need to be cured.
“Today was a positive step forward but now we need to see real action and the Communities Minister bringing forward legislation to ban conversion therapy. This is a small but significant step forward.
“Members of the LGBT+ community need our respect and they need our support. I hope that today’s motion goes some way in beginning the process of bringing in a ban on conversion therapy in Northern Ireland.”
