SINN Féin MLA Cathal Ó hOisín has called for the owners of the Montague Care Home to do more to ensure that the current residents and staff are fully accommodated after the announcement of the closure of the home.

The East Derry MLA said: “There is anger in the local community after the shock announcement that the Montague Care Home in Portstewart is to close.

“Apart from the worry that this has caused the current residents as to where they will be relocated we have also seen the loss of 41 jobs which will be a blow to the local economy.

“While I understand the concerns about the state of the current building this announcement has come as a complete shock and I would question the owners commitment to maintaining this home that they recently acquired.

“I am calling on HC –One the owners of the home to outline what plans they have to meet the concerns of the residents and their families that they will be rehoused in the local community and that they will look at alternative employment for the staff.”
