MLA praises anti-flood efforts

Local DUP MLA Paul Frew has praised “the co-ordination and efforts” of Roads Service who, he says, worked with him and local councillors to prevent homes being flooded in Ballymena South.

Cllrs Martin Clarke and Reuben Glover joined Mr Frew last Tuesday night after being contacted by concerned residents at Queen Street/Antrim Road and Ballykeel.

The Assemblyman said: “Early on we realised that with the very heavy rain there was massive potential for flood damage to be done.

“I was able to get in contact with Roads Service immediately and co-ordinate resources to the area and other areas of Ballykeel that were also under threat from surface water that had accumulated.

“We were able to knock doors and consult with people, help get sand bags delivered and jet and clear gullies that were struggling with the massive amount of rain.”
