MLA questions re-release of loyalist killer Knight

EAST Londonderry SDLP MLA John Dallat has questioned why notorious loyalist killer, Torrens Knight, has again been released from prison.

Knight was given 12 life sentences for the UFF 'Trick or Treat' murders at the Rising Sun bar at Greysteel in 1993 and the murders of four workmen at Castlerock the previous year.

He was released early in 2000 under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement but was returned to jail after being found guilty of assaulting two sisters in a Coleraine pub. However, he has been released again following a decision by the Sentence Review Commission.

John Dallat MLA has claimed Knight has been treated with "kid gloves."

"Under the realy release scheme there has been a variety of procedures followed, in other words there's no standardisation.

"Some have had their licences revoked immediately even before court cases, others have had them suspended.

"But this one has been particularly bizarre and it raises a whole range of questions as to why Torrens Knight has got kid glove treatement," he said
