MLA seeks urgent meeting with Minister over funding crisis

LAGAN Valley MLA Paul Butler is seeking an urgent meeting with Environment Minister Edwin Poots over the proposed cuts by his department in relation to the Belfast Hills Partnership.

“The Belfast Hills project has helped develop the heritage and tourism potential of the Belfast hills and in particular the Divis and Black mountains which so many citizens are now able to enjoy,” said Mr Butler. “The Belfast hills are central to the identity of local communities and the city of Belfast and they form a chain stretching from Colin Mountain to Carnmoney Hill.

“The Belfast Hills Partnership will be under severe threat if these proposed funding cuts are implemented,” he continued. “In effect these cuts will have a devastating impact on the organisation which is already working within a tight budget to help protect and enhance our environment.”
