“I was delighted to meet recently with Rob Lawrence, Centre Manager for Christians Against Poverty (CAP) in the Mid Ulster area, and want to commend the great work that this charity is involved with, and highlight some of the services they offer locally, in partnership with local churches,” said Mrs Overend.

The local Assembly member recently met with Rob Lawrence from the charity to discuss its services.

“Christians Against Poverty (CAP) is a UK-wide charity committed to taking people out of poverty, and they are now operating across Mid Ulster,” she continued.

“CAP exists to help people struggling with poverty and personal debt, and is particularly able to assist vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals and carry out home visits, but will offer help free of charge to people regardless of age, gender, faith or background.

“CAP will negotiate repayment plans with creditors, and provide assistance with all levels of debt right up to insolvency, doing what they can to help break the cycle of debt and poverty. They provide sound advice and are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

“The charity also offers budgeting courses for young people, helping anyone to get more in control of their finances, so they can save, give and prevent debt. The Mid Ulster debt centre in Magherafelt is one of 21 centres across Northern Ireland, with others located nearby in the towns of Dungannon, Ballymena and Antrim.”
