Having been working on this issue for several years, Mr Givan now brings this to the floor of the Assembly to once again raise awareness of the lack of progress from the DRD and DOE.

“The issue of a number of major junctions in Lisburn has been long identified as a problem following the lack of improvement works which were due to have been carried out by developers in these particular areas,” explained Mr Givan.

“Over the past few years myself and colleagues have made representation to both the Department of Regional Development and the Department of Environment on how to progress improvements at key junctions on the Knockmore and Prince William Road.

“Unfortunately both Departments have until now failed to identify a way forward to resolve this matter and as local representatives we will be bringing this to their attention in a collective meeting in the coming weeks.

“It is important that as Lisburn continues to increase in population and commuters use these prominent junctions, that the millions of pounds required to invest in the road infrastructure is brought forward.

“The infrastructure presently is struggling to cope with the demand and public safety is being compromised.

“A duty is placed upon the Department of Environment regarding the issue of planning and the Department of Regional Development as the department responsible for the roads infrastructure and major projects.

“I hope that in bringing this to the Assembly it will force positive action in this regard from the Ministers responsible.”
