MLA vows to address rural issues

MLA Claire Sugden attended last weekend’s Londonderry and Limavady Agricultural Show.

Impressed by the display, the Independent MLA said: “This constituency is largely rural; it is populated with numerous farming and agricultural families, enterprises, and local producers which make up our vital rural economy.

“The wide variety of produce on show demonstrated the potential that rural enterprises in this area have to compete in local markets and beyond.

“I particularly enjoyed the excellent Artisan Food tent, where I happily sampled a range of products from Coleraine’s The Chocolate Manor, Limavady’s Broighter Gold, and Milgro’s Roe Valley Tobacco Onions.

“I was impressed at the range of agri-food businesses, machinery, and services I spoke with, and to hear of their many successes. I also welcomed the opportunity to chat about the issues they are facing. We need to have more events like this so that local producers can showcase their products and enjoy the opportunity to network with others.

“I continue to work with various groups to address rural transport and isolation, access to broadband and mobile phone coverage, and a variety of other issues. Rural life is an integral part of this constituency, and I encourage anyone to contact my office with concerns that they might have.”
