MLAs urged tosubmit art

WITH two weeks to go until the closing date for Northern Ireland’s first ever MLA Art competition, organised by the Metropolitan Arts Centre, Londonderry MLAs are being urged to get their creative hats on and submit their entries as soon as possible.

MAC will open its doors next spring and as the countdown begins all of Northern Ireland’s MLAs have been invited to submit a self-taken photograph, drawing, painting or poem which represents their constituency, their personal passion or their politics.

MAC’s Anne McReynolds issued a special plea to Foyle MLAs to get their entries in: “Derry has a special place in the arts and cultural life of Northern Ireland as we look forward to it becoming the UK City of Culture in 2013.

“We know there’s hidden artistic talent in each of the six Foyle MLAs and for that reason we’re making a special effort to ensure they get their work in for the closing date.

She added: “I am definitely looking forward to seeing what our MLAs come up with. Maybe there is a future Turner Prize winner in Stormont? We’ve already received a number of early entries and are very excited at the standard of work.”

MLAs have been asked to submit their entry by June 3. A winner for each constituency will be judged with an overall final winner announced at the exhibition of works which will take place following the opening of the new Assembly.
