MLA's urgent call for an end to attacks

NORTH Antrim MLAs have united to condem last week's graffiti attack on a GAA Club in Rasharkin.

DUP MLA Mervyn Storey and Sinn Fin MLA Daith McKay both called for an end to attacks upon community halls in the area.

Speaking after graffiti was daubed at Rasharkin GAA club Mervyn Storey said: "The Protestant community in Rasharkin know only too well just how debilitating such low level attacks can be, having endured many years of this kind of thing and far, far worse.

"I would appeal to people to end this kind of behaviour. Such behaviour is wrong. It does nothing to assist in building community relations. It certainly does nothing to help with the plight faced by the Protestant community in Rasharkin."

North Antrim Sinn Fin MLA Daith McKay added: "This attack is clearly sectarian in nature and will be condemned by all sides of the community here.

"We want to see all sectarian attacks on people and property here brought to a total and absolute end. The overwhelming majority of unionists and nationalists living here abhor this behaviour and any other attempts to raise tensions here over the summer period.

"I would encourage anyone with information relating to this attack to bring it forward to the PSNI to ensure that those responsible are brought before the courts."
