MLAs welcomePower NI price cut

EAST Londonderry MLA’s have welcomed last week’s announcement by Power NI that they will be reducing the cost of electricity.

The price drop will come into effect from October, and it will shave around £80 a year off the typical household bill.

Independent MLA David McClarty said: “This is very good news for everyone in East Londonderry and indeed throughout Northern Ireland.

“It is particularly good news for our hard pressed senior citizens, who in recent years have had to make the decision to eat or heat; and also to young families on low incomes and those suffering from long term illness or disability.

“The announcement is very timely, given that the summer months are almost behind us and the longer, colder nights are fast approaching.

Power NI is to be congratulated for this initiative; and I trust other providers will follow their example.”

DUP MLA Adrian McQuillan added: “ Households across Northern Ireland will welcome this price decrease - it is only right that when savings are achieved on the wholesale market they are transferred directly to customers.

“It is also good to hear that, as well as a price reduction for domestic customers, businesses and farmers will also benefit from a tariff decrease of roughly 14% especially at a time when finances have been fully stretched, with the current economic climate and coming into the winter months.”

Stephen McCully, Managing Director of Power NI, added: “We’ve listened to our customers and we know that great service and better value are more important than ever. So we’re delighted to introduce this price reduction. “
