Model scoop 'Scarecrow Street' awards

BALLYMONEY Model Controlled Integrated Primary School obtained two prizes for their entries to produce the scariest, the most eco-friendly, and the best celebrity look-alike scarecrows.

Altogether 18 Integrated Primary Schools from across Northern Ireland participated in a competition which was judged by Cherrie McIlwaine from BBC Radio Ulster's Gardeners' Corner.

The scarecrows were showcased in "Scarecrow Street" at the annual Garden Show within the stunning surroundings of the walled gardens of Hillsborough Castle. Scarecrow Street, sponsored by Allianz and supported by the Integrated Education Fund is rapidly becoming an anticipated feature at the show.

The Ballymoney school obtained two prizes for their entries – Best Celebrity look-alike winning with "Neil Armstrong" and highly commended for "Marge Simpson"

The photograph shows the Mayor of Ballymoney Mr. W. Kennedy, the year seven children who participated in this competition and their teachers Miss Herron, Mrs. Robinson and Mrs. Thompson, planting the prizes of two silver birch trees. These trees will compliment the other tree planting projects which have been ongoing for a number of years at the school.
