Moffatt murder: man charged

A 42-year-old man has been remanded in custory charged with the murder of Coleraine pensioner Norman Moffatt.

James Alexander McCook, with an address at Stonemill Terrace, Stockport, appeared at Ballymena Magistrates’ Court this morning (Thursday).

He spoke only to confirm he understood the charge.

Mr Moffatt, 73, was walking home after buying a paper in a shop on Railway Road on 26 January 2001 when he was stabbed. He died two months later.

Mr McCook was arrested in Stockport on Monday by detectives from the PSNI, working with officers from Greater Manchester Police.

He will appear by video link for a bail application on Monday 16 April at Coleraine Magistrates’ Court.
