Moira charity raise money for cancer

The Moira committee of Cancer Research UK, who have been raising money for almost 30 years, are delighted with the support they have had this year in raising funds.

Two quiz nights in Pretty Marys and The Four Trees raised over £2,000 for the charity.

Catriona Hughes, chairperson of the Moira committee, said: “We are very appreciative of the generosity of all those who donated raffle prizes. We would like to thank both pubs for providing supper and supporting our work.

“We have also raised money by packing bags at Sainsbury’s supermarket, Sprucefield, in October and were overwhelmed with the generosity of the many shoppers who donated a staggering amount of £1,322.48.

“Further fundraising events are in the pipeline. We are planning a craft fair, which will be held on Saturday November 21 in St John’s Parish Centre, Main Street, Moira. We will have a wide variety of crafts along with coffee and tea and yummy traybakes, a lovely way to spend a few hours on a Saturday.

“We will end our year with our annual interdenominational carol service, which will be held in the Holy Trinity Church of Ireland, Magheralin.

“We wish to thank those families, who at their time of loss of a loved one, have remembered us, and asked for donations in lieu of flowers. Our committee, going strong since 1987, would like to thank again all those who have supported us so generously this year. It gives us great encouragement to continue to work.”
