Moira Demesne upgrade work set for summer completion date

New pathways and walkways are being constructed at the entrance part of the Demesne. The upgrade will ensure the continued use of the park, which is a popular area for dog-walking, play for children, jogging and other recreational use.

The current amenity block will also be subject to rebuild so as to offer a more modern facility for the local community.

The project is being funded by Lisburn City Council’s Lagan Rural Partnership and the Leisure Services Department.

Alderman Allan Ewart, Chairman of the Local Action Group of the Lagan Rural Partnership, and Chairman of the Economic Development Committee at Lisburn City Council, said: “The work is coming on really well and it is clearly very busy at the Demesne at this time between local people using the area and the construction work going on.

“While it’s hard to envisage how good the planned improvements will be, having seen the plans I am looking forward to a great end result with a superior offering for local people and visitors to the City of Lisburn.”

Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Leisure Services Committee, said the capital improvements are all about the “benefit of the local community and of course ensuring that we preserve this very valuable open park area”.

He said: “Moira is known for its heritage and beauty and the scheme has been designed to reflect the culture and historical landscape seen in and around the village; but with a practicality for use.

“We will be looking to future uses of the Demesne to benefit the local area and to provide an enhanced facility within the community.

“I am delighted to see the work progressing so well and we look forward to a grand opening .”
