Moira pair prepare for world games

Zoe Cunningham and Nicci Gregg, who both work in communications for Coca-Cola, say that they are delighted to be part of Team 2013.

The pair are two of twenty local Coca-Cola employees have secured volunteer places at the event.

The Lisburn-based company is a key WPFG sponsor and is specifically backing the volunteer programme.

Staff from a range of departments in Coca-Cola will join ‘Team 2013’.

Nicci Gregg, communications coordinator at Coca-Cola said, “The Games are sure to be a brilliant event which will bring the whole community together. I’m excited to be part of this historic summer for Northern Ireland.”

Fellow staff member, Zoe said she was really excited to be volunteering for such a fantastic community event. “I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to experience the spirit of the Games in Northern Ireland as part of Team 2013.”

Following an interview selection process involving thousands of volunteer applicants, games’ organisers through Volunteer Now are contacting applicants during May and June as part of a phased programme of role matching and allocation of roles.  A proactive recruitment campaign launched in September resulted in a record number of volunteer applicants signing up.

The selection and interview phase welcomed people from every district council region in Northern Ireland as well as applicants from Dublin, Glasgow, Birmingham and London.

As momentum continues to build ahead of the Games, which get underway at the King’s Hall on August  1,

John Tully, WPFG Chief Executive said: “Following a strong campaign combined with grass roots engagement with local communities and an extensive ‘VolunTour’ roadshow, initial analysis has indicated a very representative range of people in terms of age, gender and  disability.

“It’s clear that all volunteer applicants are looking forward to making their individual contribution to help ensure that the 2013 Games are memorable, highly successful and the friendliest games ever.”

“A common theme amongst prospective volunteers during the selection interview process was an enthusiastic desire to show off Northern Ireland.

“The volunteers will passionately encourage athletes, their families and Games visitors to check out all our top attractions, cities, towns, villages, beaches and countryside.”
