MoiraDemesne masterplan revealed

A Masterplan for the regeneration of Moira Demesne has been presented to Lisburn City Council.

The proposed scheme of regeneration had originated from an approach made by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in regard to a call for potential strategic projects as part of funding under the Rural Development Programme.

A landscape architect was appointed by the Council previously to develop a Masterplan for the delivery of the proposed project and arising from that decision, Mr Andrew Haley from the Paul Hogarth Company had been invited to present the draft Masterplan.

Following agreement by the Council it would form the basis of a full planning application and a strategic funding application to DARD would be submitted.

Mr Hayley advised the councillors the Masterplan had been prepared against the background of a strategic vision and through discussions with the local community whilst at the same time recognising the demesne’s historical and regional significance.

It was agreed to recommend that the Masterplan for regeneration of Moira Demesne be accepted subject to the preferred option of consolidation of the operational store with a community room and public conveniences as part of the proposed building provision. This will then form the basis of a full planning application and strategic funding application to DARD.

Mr Hayley advised that it was planned to meet with the local community in Moira and to present details in regard to the proposed Masterplan.
