Money Week at Bushmills PS!

The week began with a special money-themed assembly.

The children then returned to class and discussed how they could earn coins as part of the planned whole-school reward scheme where all children had to work together as a school to earn a treat for the last day of term.

Throughout the week all class activities were based around the theme of money, and pupils were given opportunities to learn about areas such as keeping accounts, cost of living, how to save our money – and more importantly, where our money comes from.

On Tuesday, the whole school took part in a range of activities including Fairground Games, Obstacle Course Puzzles, Buried Treasure Grid, ICT Activities, Easter Egg Production and Coin Heights. Once again the children were aiming to earn coins for their final end of term treat.

Kathryn Henderson from the local First Trust Bank visited the school on Wednesday afternoon to offer advice to the pupils surrounding money issues and how best to look after money.

Thursday ended with a planned afternoon of Sports Activities where the children worked to earn coins individually by completing a series of endurance tests which resulted in an overall winner for each class.

The final day on Friday proved to be the busiest day of the week.

In the morning, the whole school (including the nursery unit) created a path of pennies in the playground for charity.

The children had been involved in bringing in all their 1ps and 2ps to school during the previous week and had all made a fantastic effort. During the week each class had also walked to the local shops to buy ingredients to make their own buns, smoothies, cakes, etc and had made these and then sold them at their afternoon Enterprise Event which in turn also made profit which will go to a chosen charity.

A total sum of £278 was raised during the week long event.
