Moneymore teenager lands supporting gig with US star Steve Earle

A Moneymore teenager has landed the gig of her career so far as she is set to support American singer-songwriter Steve Earle on the Irish leg of his European and US tour.

Chelsey Chambers, 19 told the MAIL she is ‘very excited’ to get the opportunity at such an early stage in her music career.

Following the release of her debut EP ‘I’m Falling’ at the end of last year, Chelsey said she has been getting great feedback from the public.

“The response from my debut EP has been really good. I’ve had some lovely letters from people telling me they’ve bought it on itunes and love my music. I also got one of my songs played on BBC Radio 1, it was great to hear my music out there and it has been played on various other stations as well,” Chelsey said.

Chelsey, who has recently completed her first year at University of Ulster, Jordanstown studying Sociology and Criminology is currently preparing her set for her big performance supporting Steve Earle.

She will support him at his two Irish dates, the first on 27th August and the Second in Derry City at the Millennium Forum on 28th August.

Chelsey said: “I’m working the minute on what songs I am going to perform. I have been told to prepare a 40 minute set so that’s what I’m concentrating on at the minute.”

Speaking about how the role came to be, Chelsey said: “I got a call from Paul Charles, who works as like a promoter in London but is originally from Magherafelt asking me would I be interested in doing the gigs for Steve Earle’s Irish tour, of course I jumped at the chance, I am very excited for it to happen.” Chelsey’s EP is available to download now, and you can watch her videos on YouTube.
