Monitoring unit was lost during move of house

While he was at a bail address in Lurgan a 24-year-old man felt he was under threat and moved to another address but in the process lost a security monitoring unit worth almost £400.

Connor Eamon Graham, Cloghog Road, Dungannon, appeared last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court via videolink from Magilligan Prison.

He admitted the theft of a home monitoring unit, valued at £396, belonging to G4S on September 9, 2014.

A barrister representing Graham said he was a sentenced prisoner with a parole date in February.

The court heard that at the time of the offence the defendant was on bail when he was arrested for a breach of bail the monitoring unit could not be found.

Graham said that when he moved his bail address to a friend’s address he lost the unit.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said Graham had been in custody for a few short periods and had received five months for possession of a class B drug.

The barrister said Graham had been on bail on other matters and had secured an address in Lurgan.

But, he added, his client would say he came under threat and moved to another bail address in Dungannon.

He neglected to bring the unit with him.

The lawyer added it may be ‘lying in a shed somewhere and completely useless to anyone else’.

Judge Bates imposed a sentence of four months in custody, suspended for three years, and ordered Graham to pay £396 compensation.
