Local PSNI officers, along with officers from DVA, randomly checked a number of vehicles including 24 vehicles, six taxis and three buses as part of the proactive traffic safety operation.

Const. Aidan Rooney said: “I think it was a successful operation and demonstrated the condition of some vehicles using our roads. Of all the vehicles checked, 10 were issued with a prohibition order, seven licences were suspended as a result of a prohibition and eight defect notices were issued. A number of fixed penalty notices were also issued by the PSNI and DVA.

“In total, 55% of all vehicles checked had at least one mechanical defect identified. We are committed to keeping our roads safe and that includes ensuring your vehicle is roadworthy.”
