More walks on offer at Castlerock Walkfest this September

THE third Castlerock Community Association WalkFest will take place on Saturday and Sunday, September 15-16.

There will be walks for all the family, from kids to grandparents, to enjoy Castlerock’s sea air and beautiful location This year there will be a wider range of walks on offer including:

Family Walk: bring the young children even in buggies, the short walk will be an environmental adventure exploring local wildlife. A face-painter will be available to add to the colour. Tea, squash and buns are a further incentive to finish.

Gentle Journey: for those a little older who may have done little or no walking but would like to try a ‘gentle’ walk of no more than an hour in duration. Enjoy meeting others have a cup of tea and scone at the end and enjoy the chat and excitement.

Walk Talks: walks in and around the village with an expert leader who will provide information about the surroundings, probably village history and also wildlife. Again finishing with tea, scones and chat, an opportunity to catch up on information you may have missed.

Nordic Walking: learn this healthy walking with long poles. It puts less pressure on the joints and as legs and arms are swinging is very good for the health. Poles and a trainer are available, training in the morning and then a short walk to use what you have learnt in the afternoon. Again relax later with tea, buns and chat.

Orienteering: learn and try this exciting skill, based on map reading and route planning. Trainers and maps will be available and then put what you have learned into practice. Tea, buns at the end will help you recover.

Hill walks: moderate hill walking in the Binevenagh and surrounding hills. Rest the muscles afterwards with tea, buns and share your stories of the walk.

Registration and the start of all walks is from the Peter Thompson Hall where refreshments will be available for all at the end of the walks. Transport will be provided to the start point of walks which are located away from the village.

Registration will be from 9am each day. Participants are advised to wear suitable outdoor clothing and appropriate footwear.
