Mother and daughter's losing success

MOTHER and daughter, May Sheppard and Victoria Kernohan, are big losers... and proud of it.

Between them the Moira pair have lost nearly 11 stone - May has shed five stone two and a half pounds while Victoria has lost five stone seven and a half pounds.

They started their health kick in April after Victoria’s health began to suffer.

“My best friend Tammy was doing it and she encouraged me to go,” said 29-year-old Victoria, who has a six-year-old daughter Amy.

“I needed to lose weight for my own health. Mummy kept saying 'You’re going to have a heart attack'.”

May added: “I bought her the first six months membership as a Mother’s Day present from Amy. To get her to go I went too.

“We’re still in a bit of shock ourselves over what we’ve lost,” she said.

Victoria told how she’s enjoying her new slimline figure: “I’m able to get about far better, play with my daughter and do more about the house. I don’t get out of breath as much now.”

The highlight for May is being able to fit into dresses again. She said: “I was bought a red dress for Christmas. I haven’t worn a dress for 25 years. It’s fantastic.”

She went on: “I couldn’t have done it without Weightwatchers and Bernie Walsh (group leader) - she’s an inspiration.”

May and Victoria go to the Weightwatchers group in Lurgan. They’re just a few pounds off reaching their goal weight at which point they’ll become Gold members.

“I thought it was really easy to follow. If I thought it was this easy to do I’d have done it years ago,” said May, who turns 50 in May.

“The important thing is to stick at it. You hear about people who reach their target weight then stop and put it all back on.”
