Mother furious after buggy snub

Yvonne McConaghy (42) was waiting at the bus stop at Rushmere with her one-year-old son and three-year-old grandchild last Wednesday (January 11).

When the bus arrived she was unable to get the double buggy through the main door at the front of the bus.

She said: “I had just finished doing a bit of shopping with my two children and was waiting for the bus.

“When I asked the driver to open the side doors to let me on with the double buggy, he refused to open them, saying that they are only for disabled people.

“However, when the next bus came, not only did the driver open the door, he actually got out of his seat and helped me.

“In fact, he told me that there was a notice in their office telling staff that they have to allow people with buggies use the side doors.”

Back in August, the ‘MAIL’ reported a similar incident involving Mrs McConaghy.

She was also refused permission to use the side doors on the bus on three other separate occasions.

“It’s embarrassing holding people up on the bus,” she said.

“I’m sure other people have experiences similar things. I couldn’t be the only one.

“It’s got to the stage that I’m avoiding getting the bus.”

A spokesperson for Translink said: “We were not aware of the recent incidents of this passenger being unable to board our buses with a double buggy.

“We have contacted the passenger concerned to discuss her travel patterns so we can better accommodate her requirements.”
