Motorcyclist doing 100mph on M1 '˜had a lot on his mind'

When police were responding to an emergency call and travelled at speeds in excess of 100mph they still could not catch up with a motorcycle driven by a Portadown man.

Andrew McKenzie, Ballynarry Road, Portadown, was banned from driving for six months last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for excess speed on November 20 last year. He was also fined £150. The court heard that police were responding to an emergency. They were travelling in excess of 100mph and a motorcycle was about half a mile in front of them but they could not catch up with it. It accelerated to a speed of 110mph before being overtaken by police.

McKenzie sent a letter to the court in which he said he had a lot on his mind and his speed crept up.
