Motorhome say members 'did not park on road'

A MOTORHOME Association in Northern Ireland has contacted Moyle councillors to say their members did not park on the road near the Council offices in Ballycastle during the Lammas Fair.

Council Vice-Chairperson, Cllr Madeline Black (SDLP), said she was contacted by the Association who said their members had parked legally at Sheskburn Garage and gave a donation to charity and it was other motorhome users who parked at Mary Street.

Cllr Black said a private company came in to put up No Parking signs around Ballycastle for the Fair and by the time they arrived the motorhomes were already parked at Mary Street.

Meanwhile, the motorhome association said they do not like the new lay-out at Bayview Road in Ballycastle.

Cllr Black said the motorhome association want reassurance from Moyle Council that they are welcome in the town.

Sinn Fein councillor Cathal Newcombe said there should be some form of advertising to let motorhome users know there are 26 spaces for motorhomes at the Ballintoy side of Ballycastle.

In some cases he said motorhome users incorrectly dispose of their chemical toilets when in areas.

Ulster Unionist councillor Helen Harding said some of the motorhomes at Mary Street where at the Lammas Fair from the preceding Friday until the Tuesday after the Fair and she believed if the Roads Service marked out the parking spaces car-size at Mary Street it would solve the problem.

Cllr Black asked for a letter to be sent from the Council to the motorhome association to tell them where they can park as she said it is a tourist town and people have to be welcomed.

Council Chairperson, Cllr Price McConaghy (Independent), said some motorhomes had canopies opening up onto the footpath.
