Motorist failed to provide breath sample

A GRACEHILL man has been banned from driving for 12 months for failing to provide a breath specimen.

Tony Parkinson (51), of Church Road, was also fined 250 after admitting the offence at Ballymena Magistrates Court.

The court was told that Parkinson came to police notice at Waveney Court on January 23 when a smell of alcohol was detected on the defendant’s breath.

He failed a preliminary breath test but when he was taken to Ballymena PSNI station, he refused to provide an evidential specimen of breath.

Solicitor Colm McElhenny said Parkinson “had a dispute with police which somehow escalated” resulting in him not providing a specimen.
