Motorist fined and banned for using his mobile phone

A PORTGLENONE motorist detected using a hand-held mobile phone has been fined £75 and banned from driving for one month at Ballymena Magistrate's Court.

Mark Richard Mulholland, (18), apprentice fitter/welder, of Ballynease Road, admitted the offence at last Thursday’s sitting in Antrim.

A solicitor for Mulholland told the court that his client had been expecting an urgent call on the day he was detected, June 25, and that was the reason he answered his mobile.

Sentencing Mulholland, District Judge Desmond Perry instructed that the one month driving ban would run concurrently with a recent disqualification.
