Motorists asked for care

MOTORISTS in Dungiven have been urged to take care and be mindful of the needs of residents around Kevin Lynch Park, after several locals complained to the Mayor.

Sean McGlinchey, Mayor of Limavady, asked motorists to be more considerate towards locals and asked them to refrain from parking on either side of the street’s entrance.

The Sinn Féin man said: “I have received several complaints from local residents about cars impeding access by parking on either side of the entrance to Kevin Lynch Park. It’s a serious issue for someone with a pram or wheelchair users.

“It is also a very serious problem if an ambulance or fire engine needed access to the area. I would ask motorists to have some consideration for the needs of local people and park responsibility away from the entrance to the site. We will be delivering an information leaflet around the area to raise awareness.

“As regards the long term solution to this problem I have already been in touch with Road Services. I am pleased to confirm that I have got them to adopt the roadside around the entrance so that double yellow lines can be provided. Once that is in place the traffic wardens will monitor the area as it will then be an offence to park there. That will put a stop to the practice.

“Adopting the roadway is a legal process which takes time. In the meantime I would ask the residents to be patient and the motorists to find somewhere else to park.”
