Motorists need access to toilets - Hanna

MOTORISTS driving through Gilford should be able to see signs directing them to the nearest public conveniences, it was suggested at the September monthly meeting of Banbridge District Council.

Councillor John Hanna raised the matter after councillors were referred to an item in the minutes expressing concern that no toilet facilities would be available in the village when Gilford Community Centre is closed.

“We need facilities for passing motorists and there is no signage at the moment,” said Councillor Hanna. “We should be providing temporary toilets at least - this is something we need to keep on the agenda.”

Councillor David Herron said the original toilets in the village were now “obsolete” and the council was doing “the right thing” by directing people to the leisure centre.
