Motorists urged to co-operate as major road works begin in Draperstown

Sinn Féin councillor Brian McGuigan urged motorists to co-operate during the improvements to the Tobermore Road which will not be completed until early December.

Mr McGuigan was joined by DRD Roads Service officials when they met with local traders and business people to inform them of plans to have all work completed by early December.

“It is welcome that preparatory work in raising kerbing, raising ironwork and strenghening weak areas of carriageway begins this week,” he said.

“A road closure for two days will be necessary and the dates for this still have to be agreed by the minister with responsibility for our roads network.

“This will be necessary to facilitate final surfacing.

“DRD Roads Service have been made aware that local sheep sales are on Friday and I have asked that this is taken into consideration in terms of scheduling of work as well as the needs of our local traders and business people.

“I urge all drivers and pedestrians to cooperate fully with the workers employed to carry out this important work so as to allow the contractor to complete the work in a timely and safe manner.”
