Motorists warned as safety measures are put in place

Transport NI has urged motorists to drive with care in the vicinity of an accident blackspot on the Dromara Road in Hillsborough at which a number of improvements have been made.

Enhanced signage has been installed at the spot, which has seen a number of accidents occur in recent years.

The most recent accident occurred last weekend when a car came off the road and landed on its roof in a nearby field.

“To enhance the signage already in place, additional marker posts and road markings have been installed.

TransportNI took action to improve the road markings in the area following complaints by Lisburn Councillor John Palmer, who said he was concerned that someone would be killed of seriously injured if something wasn’t done to reduce the speed on the dangerous section of the road.

Mr Palmer thanked TransportNI for the temporary measures that have been put in place.

However, he stressed that it was important that action was taken to permanently reduce the speed of the road and prevent serious accidents occurring in the future.

“I am pleased that TransportNI have recognised that this is an issue on this section of the road and have put some temporary traffic calming measures in place,” said Mr Palmer.

“However, it is important that a more permanent solution is found,”
