Mount Charles mum-of-two was native of Tullyraine area

Shirley Stewart, of Mount Charles, died at Craigavon Area Hospital on April 15, at the age of 66.

Born on July 2, 1948 she lived at the family home Hillside Cottage, Tullyraine, Banbridge.

Tragedy struck the family when Shirley and twin brother Trevor were just nine years of age when their dear mother died.

Shirley attended Mullafernaghan Primary School and Banbridge High School.

When she left school she worked at Ferguson’s Factory where she trained as a weaver. She later became a child minder.

She had two sons, David and Clayton, who lived at Mount Charles.

Shirley was a faithful member of Bannside Presbyterian Church where she was a communicant member.

Being a great lover of animals she took a great interest in the Doghouse Sanctuary.

A Thanksgiving Service, which was largely attended, took place at Bannside Presbyterian Church.

Minister Rev Dr Mark Gray gave an inspiring address.

The hymns ‘The Lord is My Shepherd’ and ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’ were sung during the service.

Interment took place at the family burial plot at Magherally Presbyterian Church.

The hearse paused as the cortege passed the Homestead.

Donations in lieu of flowers are being sent to Barnardo’s and the Dog House Sanctuary.

James Minnis and Sons Funeral Directors, Bann House, Castlewellan were entrusted with the funeral arrangements.

Shirley is survived by her two sons.
