Mountain marathon for charity

A MEMBER of the North West Mountain Rescue Team has appealed for help to fundraise for the Ulster Cancer Foundation.

Pluckey Pauline McGurk, who spends much of her free time training and working with other volunteers to help those lost, in danger or injured, is planning a mammoth feat of physical endurance to help the charity - climbing the highest peak in each of the six counties in Northern Ireland.

“On June 23, starting at 3am I will commence my challenge to summit the six highest Mountain peaks in each county in Northern Ireland: Slieve Donard in Co Down, Slieve Gullion in Co Armagh, Cuilcagh in Fermanagh, Trostan in Co Antrim, Sawel in Co Londonderry and Mullaghcarn in Tyrone. I plan to do it all in 24 hours or less,” said Pauline of her planned mountain marathon.

She will be accompanied by a fellow hill walker, Emma Mc Cann and all money raised will go to Ulster Cancer Foundation.

“If any of the Sentinel’s readers have any ideas about how to raise to few pounds to support this very worthy cause, could they please get in contact,” urged Pauline.

Anyone who can offer support by making a donation or by organising an event in aid of the charity and the two women’s charity trek is asked to contact Pauline on 07887576132.

Potential helpers are thanked for their support.
