And after ignoring a police request to stop he drove on and collided with a parked car before trying to run off.

Edgar Purvens, Beechcote Avenue, Portadown, admitted driving while disqualified on January 26 this year, not having insurance and dangerous driving.

For each of the three offences he was sentenced to four months in prison, suspended for two years, and banned from driving for 12 months. He was also fined £200 for failing to stop.

The court heard that at around 3.10pm police saw Purvens driving a car in Portadown and he appeared to try and hide his face because he was a disqualified driver.

He sped up causing another vehicle to brake and ignored a police request to stop. Purvens drove up onto a pavement and collided with a parked car. He got out of the car and ran off a short distance before he was apprehended by police.

A barrister representing the defendant said he had an unenviable record and was in breach of a suspended sentence which was for a different type of offence.

He added Purvens panicked when he saw the police and took off. The barrister said that a pre-sentence report from probation did make a number of recommendations.

Judge Kelly said she was not going down the route of a community service order because Pervens had breached one before.
