Mounthill dinner in aid of Parkinson’s charity

THE Larne/Ballymena branch of Parkinson’s UK will benefit from the charity dinner organised by the Mounthill Fair Society at the Masonic Centre, Larne.

It is normally the night when the Mounthill winners show off their silverware, but there were no cups to hand over this year as the 2012 fair was postponed due to the ground at Crosshill Road being waterlogged.

However, the Mounthill Fair Society decided to go ahead with its annual dinner in a bid to raise funds for the chosen charity. Money was raised through the raffle tickets and the auction, and the support from local traders, dinner guests and society members was phenomenal, especially in the current economic climate.

The catering was supplied by Marty’s Catering, and providing the music was Geoff Murray, formerly of the Billy McFarland Showband. Much to the delight and applause of the guests, there was also an impromptu cabaret set from Alderman Roy Beggs.

In addition to the money raised at the charity dinner, Mandy Welsh, Alex Stirling and the patrons of the Crossways, Raloo, hosted a raffle on behalf of the Mounthill Fair Society, raising a sum in excess of £200 for Parkinson’s UK. The Society would like to thank Mandy, Alex and the customers of the Crossways for their generosity and support.

A cheque will be presented to Parkinson’s once all the money had been added up.
