Mouse image '˜did not relate' to Glengormley restaurant

Environmental Health Officers have confirmed that a photograph of a mouse posted on social media, which it was claimed had been taken in a local restaurant, 'did not relate to the premises'.

Controversy was sparked on Tuesday, May 10, after a woman posted a comment on Facebook, stating that while she had been having a meal in the Royal Thai restaurant in Glengormley, a mouse had joined her at the table.

The woman said: “Had a lovely meal, I have to say, but just as we were about to pay, look who joined us at the table! Totally horrified. I won’t sleep tonight!”

The post was accompanied by a photograph of a mouse.

A spokesperson for Antrim and Newtownabbey Council said: “The council’s Environmental Health Service was made aware of a posting on social media on Friday, May 13. The image associated with the posting did not relate to the premises.

“Following notification about the posting, Environmental Health Officers visited the Royal Thai restaurant. Council Officers have now concluded their investigation and no further action is being taken. The premises currently has a Food Hygiene Rating Scheme score of two (out of five).”

The Times contacted the Royal Thai, but they did not wish to comment on the issue.
