Moutray calls out Minister Kennedy

LOCAL MLA, Stephen Moutray, has called for Department of Regional Development (DRD) Minister Danny Kennedy to complete Lurgan’s Mellennium Way.

The road assists in diverting traffic congestion from the town centre and Moutray believes its completion can open up further development. He said: “Completion would see Lurgan transformed with easier access around the town, and to the 3G pitches, which are extensively used by Lurgan Junior High School and local sporting groups.

£7 million is the estimated construction expenditure on the road and funding could quite easily be found given the underspend associated with the A5 shelving.

“The completion of Mellennium Way has been a 40 year old promise.”

Mr Moutray stressed that everything possible should be done to help town centres.

“I am fed up with the lack of can do attitude and lip service displayed by the Department. Minister Kennedy needs to act and act quickly,” he added.

“Town centres are under threat and anything that central government can do to aid and assist the trades must be done.”
