Move to Northern Ireland Science Park for Carrick businessman

Stephen Kinkaid, owner of local Internet hosting company Big Wet Fish, will mark the arrival with the launch of a new cloud-based hosting service which allows customers to save on hardware costs and enjoy the benefits of a flexible and reliable network.

Before establishing BWF, Stephen was head of ICT at Carrickfergus College, teaching A-Level and GCSE students to design websites.

The idea for BWF was born out of Stephen’s dedication to encourage students’ development in ICT, and in 2004 he bought his first hosting account. This provided his students with sub-domains to host their website and allowed them to implement more sophisticated website designs.

Since 2004, BWF has rapidly expanded from a local start-up to an established and trusted web host, managing tens of thousands of websites for clients in the UK and Ireland as well as around the world.

The introduction of the cloud service will provide customers with a cost effective IT alternative to the traditional server approach, allowing them to better handle the demands of the continually evolving business environment.

“The move to the Northern Ireland Science Park marks a major growth drive for BWF,” Stephen said. “Not only have we increased our service offerings with the addition of the cloud hosting facility, but in last year alone we enjoyed an 85 percent increase in turnover and in the near future will look to recruit locally in sales, account and support divisions.”

Maintaining commitment to developing the IT skills of the younger generation, BWF also sponsors the hosting of school websites within Carrickfergus Borough Council and is delighted to offer other schools in the area hosting facilities free of charge.
