‘Movember men’ come clean

FOR their long-suffering wives and girlfriends it has been a long, long month, but it is finally over, and their men can finally come clean.

The men might be tickled pink with the amount they have raised and the awareness their unshaven look has generated for Prostate Cancer awareness, but the ladies will be relived they can finally pucker up for a kiss without the tickle of facial hair.

The steadily dipping temperatures have left the Postmen from the city’s Sorting Office with cold upper lips, but the fact that they have raised around £2,200 (excluding gift aid) for the men’s cancer awareness campaign has put broad smiles on their faces.

“We just want to thank everybody who donated and anyone who showed us support. There was a noticeable increase in the support we received after the coverage we received in The Sentinel and Radio Foyle with people coming out to us when we were making our deliveries and giving us money and showing us support. Between everybody it has been a great experience.

“The Dirty Dozen took a fair bit of abuse in work, but it was all good fun and with a serious message about men’s health, and it is nice to be able to hand over that kind of money to a charity,” said Dean.

Meanwhile, on Spencer Road, moustache maestro Packie Sweeney, who runs his own business, raised £300 by growing a ‘Mexican special’ on his upper lip.

His third eyebrow may not have gone down well with his wife, Tracy, but he was delighted with the sponsorship: “I just want to thank everyone who sponsored me.”
