Moy Park staff scaling heights for charities

A MOY Park employee will take on the challenge of a lifetime next month when he attempts to climb North Africa’s highest mountain for charity.

Caolan Brady is part of a team from across the food and drinks sector that is climbing Morocco’s Mt Toubkal to raise funds for Farm Africa. The UK charity is working to tackle hunger in eastern Africa, not with food aid but through agricultural innovation and business enterprise.

Caolan, who works as a Business Unit Leader for the food company Moy Park in Craigavon, recently coordinated an additional charity fundraiser for Farm Africa, encouraging his work colleagues to take part in a ‘200 mile bicycle and treadmill challenge’, which helped to raise £1,700 for Farm Africa in just one day.

But the mountain climb for Farm Africa is undoubtedly the most daunting charity fundraiser he has taken on so far. With the rest of the team, including three Moy Park colleagues, Caolan will set off from the foothills of the Atlas Mountains for a three day trek up Mt Toubkal which stands at 4,167 metres above sea level.

Getting to the top is the equivalent of scaling Europe’s tallest building – The Shard in London – thirteen and a half times. And the team will have to cope with reduced oxygen and severe fatigue as they reach the summit.

Meanwhile Moy Park reached a new peak as its Executive team completed a gruelling ‘All-Ireland Four Peak Challenge’ in a bid to boost the company’s overall fundraising efforts for its charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.

In an attempt to raise vital funds for Macmillan, Moy Park’s senior team pledged their commitment to the charity by donning their hiking boots to climb a series of peaks across Ireland – including Slieve Donard, Mweelrea, Lugnaquilla and Ireland’s highest peak, Carrantuohill – scaling 11,900 feet in just three days.
