Moyle CLIC Sargent group needs YOU!

The UK’s leading children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent is looking for new members to be part of its Moyle Area Fundraising Group.

CLIC Sargent will be holding an information evening at The Royal Court Hotel in Portrush on Wednesday 24th July at 7pm. Anyone is welcome to come along to find out more about the charity and what being part of a fundraising group is all about.

The Moyle Area Fundraising Group is one of many support groups helping CLIC Sargent raise funds for its Northern Ireland Homes from Home Appeal. The Appeal aims to build two specialist houses close to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children and the Belfast City Hospital NI Cancer Centre that can be used by families of children and young people that are undergoing cancer treatment.

Lesley McCloy, Chairperson of the Moyle Area Fundraising Group, knows first hand the difference a Home from Home will make to families in Northern Ireland, “My daughter Chloe was diagnosed with cancer when she was just two and a half.

“We are from Ballymoney so it meant a round trip of more than 190 miles to take her to Belfast for the treatment she needed.

“The additional money we were spending on petrol was a burden, but the real difficulty was having to leave my new born son with family members while we travelled to Belfast with Chloe.

“A Home from Home would have meant that we could have stayed together in Belfast and that would have made the world of difference to us. Just to be able to take a break from the hospital to eat a meal together or do some laundry would have made that time a little easier.”

Fundraising Manager for the Co. Antrim area Christine McClune comments, “What makes our fundraising groups so special is that each group is totally different. Every group is set up as they see fit and is led wholly by the desires of the group members. Some arrange one big event per year, while others meet regularly to hold a programme of activities throughout the year.”
