Moyle Council to help Armoy Rugby Club

Moyle Council is to bring forward £50,000 of funding to Armoy Rugby Club to enable the club to access grants from other bodies.

The request was made by the club who were to have had the community sports development granted paid in 2015/16.

However, a request was made by the club to have the £50,000 funding brought forward to 2014/15 to allow Armoy to draw down funding against it in order to address “additional unforeseen costs” to have a bat survey and flood risk assessment carried out. These assessments have been requested by the Northern Ireland Environment Service and the Water Agency.

Chairman of Moyle Council Cllr Donal Cunningham immediately proposed that this request be granted.

Cllr Joan Baird said that the club deserved Council’s support and said Moyle Council could take a leaf out of Armoy’s book when it came to good relations.

Cllr Padraig McShane said that if Council was financially in a position to bring forward the funding, he would be “delighted”.

Cllr Cara McShane agreed saying that it would be good for Moyle Council to come to an end on “such a good note”.
