Moyle DPP concern at 'reject' cases

MOYLE District Policing Partnership are considering inviting representatives of the Public Prosecution Service to a meeting to discuss how submissions by police officers following investigations into offences are processed.

The matter was raised at a meeting in Cushendall by SDLP Councillor, Madeline Black, who said there was a great deal of frustration in the community at the rising levels of anti-social behaviour and assaults.

What concerned her as much was the fact that the PPS appeared to reject "an awful lot of cases."

She added: "Is there anyway that we as a DPP can put pressure on the PPS to not throw out cases that an awful lot of work has been put into?"

Chief Inspector John Magill, the Area Commander, responded by saying that these things were a matter for the PPS.

It was suggested by Councillor Black that it might be useful if representatives of the PPS could come to a meeting to talk to them about the issue.
