Moyle DPP welcomes latest Neighbourd Watch Scheme

SPEAKING at a recent publicity event to promote the latest Neighbourhood Watch Scheme in Moyle, Cllr Robert McIlroy, Chair of Moyle District Policing Partnership (DPP) said; "I am very pleased, on behalf of the DPP, to be present at the launch of the Dun-a-Mallaght Neighbourhood Watch Scheme and would like to congratulate Mr. Marvi Kashkoush (the scheme co-ordinator), local residents, the PSNI and everyone else who has been involved in the planning of this initiative".

Also commenting on the scheme, Mr Philip McKeown, Vice Chair of the DPP, said; “Neighbourhood Watch is an excellent crime prevention and public safety initiative and, like the Chairman, I am very pleased to be here to welcome and offer our support to the latest scheme in Moyle, which, I believe, is the first in Ballycastle”.

The Chairman went on to say; “Neighbourhood Watch provides local people and local communities with the opportunity to work with the PSNI and other agencies and make positive steps, where necessary, to improve the areas where they live, particularly, for example, in relation to anti-social behaviour, burglary, nuisance motoring and criminal damage”.

Mr McIlroy went on to say: “This scheme, like all other neighbourhood watch areas, is easily identifiable because of the signage; this is obviously a preventative measure, which we hope will add to the safety and security of those residing within the designated scheme”. “We also envisage that it would be a strong deterrent to anyone intent in engaging in anti-social behaviour, or criminal activity”.

On a final note the Chairman said: “If you, your family, friends or neighbours are concerned about crime or anti-social behaviour in your locality and you want to work together to help reduce crime and the fear of crime; then Neighbourhood Watch is a concept worth considering within your street, close, avenue, park, estate or village”.
