Moyle 'not on target' with anti-social behaviour

MOYLE police are 'not on target' having not reduced the number of incidents of anti-social behaviour.

During a recent District Policing Partnership meeting, members heard that there were 154 reported crimes between April and June 2009, compared to 159 during the same period this year - an increase of five.

Area Commander, John Magill explained: “Our aim is to reduce the number of incidents of anti-social behaviour to ensure a 15% reduction by 31 March 2011. Information shows that this target is not being met.

“Police patrols will target those locations where anti-social behaviour is reported. Acceptable Behaviour Contracts and Anti-social Behaviour Orders will be sought against those using ant-social behaviour.”

In response a member of the public asked: ‘Can the Area Commander outline how local police will aim to meet this target?”

Mr Magill continued: “It is very important that all anti-social behaviour is reported. If it isn’t then it is difficult for us to deal with it. When such crime is reported then we can build a profile and send officers to patrol that area.

“We have not had the same problems this year as last which is down to neighbourhood policing.”

Michael Molloy then asked about the seafront in Ballycastle stating: “This area is being well policed and managed now so it’s difficult to engage in anti-social behaviour. However there is still elements that need to be managed.”
