Moyle school children get safety message

MOYLE Streetwise event was held on Thursday 14th June at Carey Parish Hall, Ballyvoy.

Moyle Streetwise is a safety event targeted at primary seven pupils within Moyle District and is jointly organised by the Moyle Home Accident Prevention Group, Northern Health Trust & Moyle District Council. Streetwise is a practical based learning experience aimed at raising personal safety awareness.

Approximately 180 primary seven pupils attended Streetwise from the following schools: Armoy PS, Ballycastle Integrated PS, Barnish PS Ballyvoy, Bunscoil Baile an Chaistil Ballycastle, Bushmills PS, St Mary’s PS Cushendall, St Olcan’s PS Armoy, St Patrick’s PS Glenariff, St Patrick’s & St Brigid’s PS Ballycastle and Straidbilly PS.

Ten different scenarios were set up by the following agencies: Cancer Focus, Health & Safety Executive Northern Ireland (HSENI), N.E.E.L.B Schools Dietician, N.I Coastguard, Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE), Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, Northern Health Trust - Health Visitor, Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) - Stranger Danger & Road Safety and Translink- Ulsterbus.

Moyle Streetwise would like to thank all those who helped make the event very successful, including HAP Moyle committee & volunteers, agencies providing scenarios, Glass’s fruit shop Bushmills for providing the fruit snack and all primary seven pupils and school teachers who attended.
