Moyle’s yearly bilingual budget is spent

MOYLE Council’s annual budget for bilingual signage has been spent, two-thirds way through the financial year, it has emerged.

A report prepared for councillors said: ‘The budget for the current financial year has now been spent and surveys for these applications will be carried out as and when additional budgetary funds become available.’

Meanwhile, the translation for Leyland Heights, Ballycastle, is Arda Leyland in Irish.

This information will now be passed to the Technical Services Department to facilitate ordering of signage.

But surveys of residents in several streets in Cushendall and Cushendun will have to wait until money is set aside.

Although a number of signs have already gone up in English/Irish and Ulster-Scots/Irish, some councillors would like the policy to be changed, saying it is a waste of money.

Applications have come in for English/Irish signs at the following locations: Layde Road, Prospect Court, Middlepark Crescent, Dalriada Crescent, Glenville Road, Bellisk Park, Riverside Close and Ballyeamon Road (all Cushendall).

* Cushendun - Glenview Park, Maud Cottages, The Bay Apartments, Clady Road, Agolagh Heights, Main Street, Glendun Road, Knocknacarry Road.
