MP: Review of rural post offices needed

DUP MP Gregory Campbell has called for a fundamental reassessment of the services provided by post offices particularly in rural areas, following the closure of about half of local branches in the past twenty years.

The East Londonderry MP addressed the problem of post office closures during a debate on the matter at Westminster.

He said: “On the issue of the other services that local post offices provide, over the past 20 years there has been a reduction of almost 50 per cent in the number of branch post offices, and that trend looks likely to continue.”

He called for an urgent review: “We need a fundamental reassessment of the services provided by branch post offices, particularly in rural areas.”
