MP welcomes changes to polling in Portrush and Portstewart

East Londonderrry MP Gregory Campbell has welcomed the Electoral Office’s proposed amendments to the polling station scheme in Portstewart and Portrush.

He said: “On the proposed amendments by the Northern Ireland Electoral Office to the Polling Station Scheme, 800 electors in Portstewart and 700 electors in Portrush, will be transferred to polling stations closer to their home address.

“In Portstewart, electors from the town who previously voted three miles away in Carnalridge Primary School will now have the opportunity to vote at Agherton Parish Centre; and electors from the Magheramenagh area of Portrush who previously voted in Portrush Primary School will now have the opportunity to vote in nearby Carnalridge Primary School.

“I welcome these proposals.

“This is good news for those electors in Portstewart and Portrush wishing to vote at the polling station closest to them particularly people who previously may have had difficulty in accessing transport to the polls.”
